The Top 10 Classic cars people want to drive again – And we’ve got 7 of them at RNG Classics

Posted on November 1, 2025

Every now and then, a list comes along that makes you smile—and this one definitely caught our attention. They asked 2,000 people which classic cars they’d most like to drive again. And the result? A mix of nostalgia, performance legends, and everyday heroes.

We couldn’t help but notice something else too: we at RNG Classics already has 7 out of the 10 cars listed in our fleet. So if you’re itching to relive those driving memories—or discover them for the first time—you know where to come.

Here’s the top 10 list, counting down in true retro fashion:

10. Peugeot 205
The original hot hatch benchmark. Born out of a passionate skunkworks team, the 205 (especially in GTi form which we have!) flattered drivers and punished the inattentive with a snap of lift-off oversteer. Light, lively, and lovable.

9. Ford Sierra
From the family school run to the motorway fast lane, the Sierra did it all. And then came the RS Cosworths and RS500s—homologation monsters that turned a family car into a touring car terror.

8. Morris Minor
Driven by millions, cherished by enthusiasts. The Minor became the poster child of the DIY restoration era. It’s no surprise it makes the list—classic British charm and simplicity never go out of style. We have tourers, one in green and one white.

7. Land Rover Defender
The original Defender—pure, rugged, and still as desirable as ever. While the new version is everywhere now, the classic shape continues to inspire. Our 1967 Series 2a is available for everything from Sunday drives to brand shoots.

6. Jaguar XJS
Silky, swoopy and occasionally thirsty (especially the V12s), the XJ was a gentleman’s express with Arthur Daley vibes. We’ve kept the spirit alive with out 1988 3.6 straight six coupe.

5. Audi Quattro
Rally legend. Game-changer. Icon. With its turbocharged engine and pioneering all-wheel-drive system, the Quattro rewrote the rules. It’s one of the few on the list we don’t yet have—but never say never… But our RS6 is not far off that legendary creation.

4. Ford Cortina
A car that did it all: school run, family holidays, touring car wins. The Mark 3 wins our hearts for style and presence, but they all earned their place in history. A car close to my heart as Senior Gillison had one that we used to go on family holidays in the 80’s.

3. Mini
Small in size, huge in impact. From city streets to rally stages, the original Mini handled like nothing else. Still one of the most rewarding drives you can have—and yes, we have our Cooper Sport ready to go.

2. Ford Escort
The UK’s everyman car. Everyone seems to have a story about their first Escort. From humble beginnings to RS icons, we’ve got the Escort DNA well represented in our garage with a 1986 XR3i Cabriolet!

1. VW Beetle
The people’s car. Over 21 million made, and still instantly recognisable. It tops the list, and rightly so. Quirky, charming, and filled with character. And ours is a Wolfsburg edition in blue with white interior

What’s interesting is how the preferences shift by generation:

  • Gen Z (1997–2012): Longing for the classics they missed

  • Millennials (1981–1996): Chasing the 90s/00s performance icons

  • Over 55s: Still loyal to the Fast Fords

So, whether you’re looking to recreate your youth, experience a legend for the first time, or bring authenticity to your next photo shoot or campaign, RNG Classics can help you get behind the wheel of something special.

Which one would you love to drive again?
