The Rosso Red Mustang and a revival partnership in the making

Posted on July 13, 2025

It’s hard to ignore the pull of a classic Mustang — especially when it’s finished in deep Rosso Red and purring with that unmistakable V8 burble. At RNG Classics, our 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible is more than just a car; it’s a slice of American motoring history, and a perfect symbol of what we’re all about.

RNG Classics founder Robbie Gillison has always had a deep appreciation for design, nostalgia, and the emotional connection that great cars can create. That passion led him to build RNG Classics into what it is today — the UK’s number one independent classic car hire company — curating a collection of rare and iconic vehicles for people to drive and enjoy.

And this Mustang? It’s right at the heart of that vision!

A True Original

The Ford Mustang made its debut in March 1964 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Designed under the watchful eye of Lee Iacocca — who later made waves by jumping ship from Ford to Chrysler — the Mustang was a bold response to a growing demand for stylish, affordable performance cars.

Ford set five design goals for the Mustang:

  • Seat four with bucket seats

  • A floor-mounted gear shifter

  • Weigh under 2,500 pounds

  • Measure no more than 180 inches long

  • Sell for under $2,500 (about £20,000 today)

It was a recipe for success. In 1966 alone, over 607,000 Mustangs were sold. Though the numbers dwindled toward the end of the first generation in 1973, the Mustang left a lasting impression — inspiring everything from the Ford Capri in Europe to an entire generation of muscle cars to this day…

Why Our Mustang Turns Heads

Our Rosso Red 1966 Convertible brings all that 60s energy to life. It’s loud in all the right ways — bold lines, a long bonnet that disappears into the horizon, and a big-hearted 4.7 V8 that delivers torque by the bucketload. It’s not about 0-60 times. It’s about drama, freedom, and the joy of the drive.

And while there are still plenty of Mustangs roaming the U.S., seeing one here in the UK — especially in this spec and condition — is something special!
