Future classics in the making – Icons of tomorrow according to RNG Classics

Posted on February 4, 2025

Everyone asks us which classic or modern classic car to buy today that will be worth a fortune tomorrow… So we listened and we have started our own Sourcing Service dedicated to finding the perfect icon

We have heard many a painful story of the ones that got sold many years ago to buy a house, or because fuel was too expensive back in the day, or there was no garage space. So many E-Type Jags and 911’s scrapped before they realised it would be worth six figures, or the Escort XR3i that hit the scrap heap because it needed a new radiator…

At RNG Classics, we live and breath classic and modern classic cars. Whether you’re looking for a sound investment or a car to drive, enjoy, and watch appreciate, we’re here to help you source the future icons before they skyrocket in value.

Look no further than the end of petrol cars in 2030/35. The writing’s on the wall, petrol-powered models are disappearing, and manufacturers are betting big on electric replacements.

Take the Audi TT, which rolled off the production line for the last time in August 2023. Or the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman, set to end in 2025. Their electric successors might be fast, but they won’t be light, agile, or raw in the way that makes these cars special. The problem is physics.

A Porsche Boxster weighs just 1,335kg, built for balance and precision. Add a 500kg battery and where do you put it? You can’t raise the floor by six inches. You can’t shove it in the boot without ruining the handling. The electric Boxster might be exciting but it won’t be the last great petrol-powered, mid-engined sports car.

It’s not just the TT and 718. The Lotus Elise and Exige, Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5—any small, lightweight petrol sports car will only get rarer, more desirable, and more valuable in the years ahead. We think it’d be silly to look past the likes of the early Civic Type R, Imprezas, Clio Sports and Golf R32

Fast forward to 2030 or 2040. Petrol is still available, but fun petrol cars aren’t. If you already own one, you’ll be laughing. More importantly, you’ll still be out enjoying it every weekend!

At RNG Classics Sourcing, we don’t just admire classics—we help you source, buy, and enjoy them before the world wakes up to their true value. Whether you’re after an appreciating asset or a weekend toy, now is the time to invest. Let us help you find your future classic today!
