Audi’s Naming Madness – But Let’s Talk About the RS6 Avant Instead

Posted on February 10, 2025

Audi seem determined to make life difficult for themselves, their dealers, their customers, and anyone looking for a used Audi in the future. Their latest model name reshuffle is a perfect example. Gone are the days of straightforward engine sizes or simple power outputs. Instead, we now have a system where even seasoned petrolheads need a decoder ring to figure out what’s what!

This all started back in 2017 when Audi ditched traditional badging in favour of a random-seeming number system. A1 25 meant under 100hp, A1 35 was up to 150hp, and so on. Confusing? Absolutely. And now, things are even messier.

Under the latest system, odd numbers were originally for ICE models, and evens for EVs. That meant the A4 was set to become the A5, and the A6 would be rebadged as the A7. But Audi then changed their minds (again), deciding the A6 would stay the A6, but only if it was petrol or diesel, while the electric one would be the A6 E-tron. Meanwhile, the A5 and A4 stay as they are. If you’re struggling to keep up, you’re not alone.

But let’s be honest—when it comes to Audi, there’s only one name we really care about – Anything that carried an RS badge!

The RS6 Avant – The Name That Really Matters

While Audi muddles through its naming crisis, one model stands unshaken. The Audi RS6 Avant has always stood for power, practicality, and sheer road presence. It doesn’t need a gimmicky name change, it’s an icon all on its own.

With its sumptuous 4 litre twin-turbo V8, delivering a monstrous 600 horsepower and 0-60mph in just over 3 seconds, the RS6 Avant is not just a fast estate—it’s one of the fastest cars on the road, full stop. It has that perfect blend of aggression and sophistication, making it just as comfortable devouring autobahn miles as it is tearing down a B-road with that unmistakable Quattro grip. And Lamborghini derived disc brakes to make sure the anchors come on when you need them…

The RS6 has always had a special place in automotive history. Audi practically invented the idea of the super estate with the RS2 Avant, and every RS6 since has built on that legacy. It’s the ultimate sleeper—capable of embarrassing supercars while still offering room for the dog, all the kids and the weekly shop.

Driving an RS6 Avant isn’t just about speed; it’s about feeling completely connected to a machine that can do it all. The deep, thunderous rumble of that V8, the instantaneous surge of torque, the way it grips and devours corners—it’s a dream car for so many people, and for good reason.

That’s why we’re thrilled to have an Audi RS6 Avant at RNG Classics. We believe that cars like this deserve to be experienced, not just admired from afar. Whether you’ve dreamed of owning one, want to see if it lives up to the hype, or just fancy a weekend behind the wheel of one of the greatest fast estates ever made, now’s your chance.

Audi may be busy renaming everything under the sun, but as far as we’re concerned, the RS6 Avant is a name that will always mean just one thing: pure automotive brilliance.

Book it today and experience the legend for yourself.
